Everyone is now aware that more housing is needed across our country but do we need 235 new "town homes" built along Georgia Avenue south of Olney where the golf practice range is now? That question will come before county officials in July when they consider an application from PULTE to build the houses on 22+ acres acquired from the golf range owners.

Numerous questions come to mind looking at the proposed layout of the housing site. First, why so many houses so close together? Where is the space of children to play and neighbors to meet without cars wizzing by their noses? There are two areas of green space shown and a green track leading to the larger park like area but why isn't that space in the very middle of the development plans, accessible to all residents with easy access?

It is clear that 235 new houses, or "townhomes", as the market effort phrases it, would create a lot more traffice in the mornings and evenings when cars are rushing on Georgia Ave. What's the plan to deal with this? What would happen to the red light sequences in front of the shopping area where Roots and Starbucks are located? Would it create a new morning jam point that delays people trying to get to work?
These issues, and presumably more that local residents might raise, are to be aired in public by a hearing of county officials. Pulte gets a chance to present it's case, residents and others get to respond. The original schedule called for a public session to be held in July, now that date has disappeared from the website.
